Backstory: Did you know that ampersand (and per se and) was once the 27th letter of the English alphabet? Since I was a lad, I've had this thing for our friend the ampersand. Seems like a lot of designers have from time immemorial. Jan Tschichold (1902-1974) wrote a treatise on it, "Formenwandlungen der &-Zeichen", including 288 ampersands he unearthed, ranging from Pompeii to its publishing in 1953. The drawings I used for this piece are a collection of my favorites, redrawn and rendered into a zig-zag camouflage.
